Jan Runermark Award 2016 – John Eldridge

John Eldridge is currently the Principal Engineer at Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Limited. John was nominated by the UK YGN for the ENS YGN’s Jan Runermark Award.


John has spent most of his career within the nuclear industry, and his experience covers design, construction, commissioning and operation of major facilities at Sellafield and other sites in the UK and overseas. These facilities range from power reactors, irradiated fuel processing, fuel storage and waste treatment plants.

John consistently contributes to, and is passionate about, the next generation of engineers; John recognises the urgent need to train and provide experience for the young engineers who will drive the profession forward. John has been integral in establishing secondment opportunities at Cammell Laird; is an ardent advocate of Cammell Laird’s apprenticeship scheme; and unequivocally supports the YGN and other STEM institutes young professionals. John regularly delivers presentations, tours, lectures and job training opportunities to the next generation and encourages everyone to get involved.

The UK YGN nominated for John for this award to recognise his continued support of, and contributions to, the YGN; his passion for encouraging personal development and his willingness to engage with the next generation and take a hands on approach to their development.

John is a great role model and the industry is fortunate to have him.
